The Tibetan Forecast for Joanne
A Year-by-Year Reading · Wood Snake · Mewa 8 White · Parkha Khon
A Tibetan year-forecast, drawn from the three predictive cycles of jung-tsi — the 9-year mewa cycle, the 12-year animal cycle, and the 5-element overlay. Cast for the years ahead, beginning in the year after Joanne's great 60-year threshold was completed.
The Great Threshold — Already Crossed
"Of all the years in a Tibetan life, the year when birth-element and birth-animal both return — the 60-year completion — is treated as the most significant single year. The year that bookends one life-arc and opens the next."
The Wood Snake Returned in 2025
Joanne was born under the Tibetan year of Wood Snake (1965). The Tibetan year that just passed — 2025 — was also Wood Snake. The exact same element-animal combination, returning for the first time since her birth.
This is the great 60-year threshold of Tibetan astrology. It happens once in a lifetime, if at all. It marks the completion of the entire elemental-animal cycle (5 elements × 12 animals = 60). The first cycle is the cycle of becoming; the second is the cycle of distillation. The year of the return is treated as a deep threshold — comparable to, and arguably more significant than, the Western second Saturn return.
The Tibetan teaching about the years after this threshold is specific: whatever has not yet ripened by 60 will not ripen later. Whatever has ripened becomes essential. The cycle that begins now is not about new beginnings — it is about refining what is already known, deepening what is already loved, and becoming the elder version of the self that the first 60 years assembled.
This frames Joanne's entire forecast. The years ahead are not the years of formation — they are the years of flowering. The forecast that follows reads accordingly.
The Three Cycles in Conversation
No single cycle tells the story. The tsi-pa watches where the cycles stack — where multiple supportive factors land in one year, or where multiple challenging factors converge.
The Mewa Year
Each year of life is governed by one of nine mewa, cycling. Joanne's natal mewa is 8-White (Earth) — the mountain mewa, the trigram Gin (for males) / Khon (for females), the most stabilising of all the mewa. Her natal mewa returns every 9 years.
The Animal Year
Each year is one of twelve animals. Joanne's birth animal is Snake — wise, watchful, deeply intuitive. The Snake returns every 12 years (lo-kak years). Her most harmonious animals are Rooster and Ox; her direct opposition is Pig (Boar).
The Element
Each year carries one of five elements. Joanne is Wood-Fire (year Wood, animal Fire). Her inner Wood is nourished by Water, drained by Fire, attacked by Metal. Her inner Snake-Fire is fueled by Wood, calmed by Earth, extinguished by Water.
The Near Years · 2026 – 2030
The first five years of the second 60-year cycle.
Fire Horse · Mewa 2 (Black Earth)
A settling year after the great 60-threshold. Fire energises your animal-element (the Snake's inner fire), which keeps vitality strong, but it drains your year-element Wood somewhat. Mewa 2 (Black Earth) asks for patience and the conservation of momentum. A year to integrate what 2025 brought to completion, not to launch new things. Body-tending is the assignment of the year.
Fire Sheep · Mewa 1 (White Iron)
A clearer year. Mewa 1 (Iron, white) is the mewa of new clarity — the year of the first deliberate step into the new 60-year cycle. The Sheep is gentle; the Fire continues to energise. A good year for a deliberate new commitment — a project, a routine, a role she chooses for the second cycle. Whatever begins this year carries the weight of "starting the next chapter."
Earth Monkey · Mewa 9 (Maroon Fire)
The completion year of her first 9-mewa cycle in the new 60-year frame. Mewa 9 (Maroon Fire) is the mewa of harvest — things begun in 2026–27 reach their visible form. The Monkey-Snake pairing is intellectually stimulating; Joanne tends to enjoy Monkey years for the conversation and the wit. A year of culmination. Whatever began clearly in 2027 will have arrived by the end of 2028.
Earth Rooster · Mewa 8 (White Earth) — NATAL MEWA RETURNS
One of the brightest years of the entire forecast. Three supportive factors stack: (1) the Rooster is one of the Snake's strongest harmony animals — they form the Metal trine together with Ox; (2) the Earth element supports her Earth-mewa; (3) her natal mewa returns. This is the first natal-mewa-return of her second 60-year cycle — and the chart is generous about it. Expect a year of deep recognition, possibly significant family deepening, a creative or contemplative project that flowers, or a quietly meaningful step into a more public elder role. If there is a single year in the near forecast where she should say yes to what she has been considering, this is it.
Iron Dog · Mewa 7 (Red Fire)
A mixed year. Dog brings relational warmth and loyalty — good for family, friendship, home-keeping. But Iron cuts her year-Wood, and Mewa 7 (Red Fire) can be energetically volatile. Family-strong, body-cautious. Mid-year (May–July 2030) is the most demanding stretch; the year settles by autumn.
The Middle Years · 2031 – 2037
Including the most challenging single year of the visible forecast, and the next Snake lo-kak.
Iron Pig · Mewa 6 (White Metal) — OPPOSITION + IRON
The hardest single year of Joanne's near forecast. Three opposing factors converge: (1) Pig is the direct opposition to Snake in the twelve-animal cycle; (2) Iron is the element that cuts her year-Wood; (3) Mewa 6 (White Metal) is another Metal layer. The Tibetan tradition would single this year out as requiring genuine protective practice. Practical counsel: wear turquoise consistently throughout the year; hang fresh lung-ta flags at Losar 2031; postpone elective surgeries, major contracts, or non-essential travel (especially toward the northwest) where possible; practise jin pa (generosity) deliberately; avoid harming pigs or boars symbolically; honour the Snake quietly through the year. This is not predicting disaster — it is naming a year that rewards careful walking.
Water Rat · Mewa 5 (Yellow Earth · Centre)
Recovery year after Iron Pig. Water arrives, which nourishes her year-Wood and restores what was depleted. Mewa 5 (the centre of the nine-square) is double-edged — it can be a year of stillness and balance, or a year of unexpected disruption. With deliberate stillness practice, it becomes the former. A restorative year. Slow down on purpose.
Water Ox · Mewa 4 (Green Wood)
A bright year. Ox is one of Snake's strongest harmony partners — they form the Metal trine with Rooster. Water continues to feed her year-Wood. Mewa 4 (Green Wood) brings expansion and communication. A year of significant relational depth and quiet creative work. Possible writing, teaching, or formal sharing of accumulated wisdom. If a body of accumulated knowledge or stories has been waiting to take form, this is the year for it.
Wood Tiger · Mewa 3 (Indigo Water)
A workable year with watch-points. Wood supports her year-element; Mewa 3 (Indigo Water) deepens emotional and intuitive currents. But Tiger and Snake can clash in some traditions — there may be sharper personalities at the edges. Lean into the Wood-Water support and let the Tiger-Snake tension stay at arm's length.
Wood Rabbit · Mewa 2 (Black Earth)
A second Wood year — supportive but heavier under Mewa 2. The Rabbit brings a soft, harmonising quality (and notably, this is the year Drew's chart marks as his lo-kak — Joanne may find herself supporting him through it). A nurturing year — care extended to others, particularly to family in transition.
Fire Dragon · Mewa 1 (White Iron)
Energetically active year. Fire returns; Dragon's expansiveness offers companionship to Snake's depth. Mewa 1 brings clarity. A year of renewed vitality after the slower Wood years. Possible significant connection with someone of Dragon-nature (interestingly, Sebi is a Wood Dragon — this may be a particularly memorable year for nonna-grandson time).
Fire Snake · Mewa 9 (Maroon Fire) — LO-KAK (Snake Returns)
Her first lo-kak of the second 60-year cycle. The Snake returns. The traditional obstacle year — requires the standard protective practices: turquoise, fresh prayer flags at Losar 2037, generosity, defer major risks to second half of year, honour the Snake. Note: this is a Fire Snake year, which is a powerful, intense version of her animal — not the same as her birth Wood Snake, but its hot cousin. The energetic intensity of the year can be turned toward deep spiritual practice or used to overheat the body — the chart asks her to choose the former. The first three months after Losar 2037 are most sensitive.
The Longer View · 2038 – 2049
Selected major years through her seventies and into her eighties.
Earth Horse · Mewa 8 (White Earth) — NATAL MEWA RETURNS
Strong recovery year directly following the Fire Snake lo-kak. Her natal Earth-mewa returns for the 8th time in her life, in an Earth year that supports it doubly. Whatever was tested in 2037 is integrated here. A year of foundational reorientation — what does the next chapter of eldership look like, now that the lo-kak is past?
Earth Sheep → Iron Monkey
Two transitional years. Earth Sheep (2039) is gentle and home-oriented; Iron Monkey (2040) brings Iron pressure back and Monkey's clever-but-tricky energy. Workable years requiring no special caution beyond the usual elder-care attention to body.
Iron Rooster · Mewa 6 (White Metal)
The Rooster returns to her cycle. While the Iron element is a modest drag on her year-Wood, the strong Snake-Rooster harmony dominates. A year of recognised eldership. Mewa 6 (Metal) brings formal authority and structure — possible significant family recognition, an honourary role, or a quiet position of seniority taken on with grace.
Water Dog · Mewa 5 (Yellow Earth · Centre)
A gentle, restorative year. Water nourishes year-Wood; Dog is moderately harmonious; Mewa 5 brings centring. A nourishing in-between year.
Water Pig · Mewa 4 (Green Wood) — OPPOSITION YEAR
The second Pig-opposition year of the forecast. Water-Wood elemental factors are supportive, which softens the animal-axis tension significantly compared to 2031 (Iron Pig). A more workable opposition year — but still requires the standard protective practices. Turquoise, prayer flags, generosity. Body-care prioritised. The Water Pig is gentler than the Iron Pig was.
Wood Rat → Earth Dragon
Five years of slow, mostly supportive transit. Wood Rat (2044) and Wood Ox (2045) bring Wood-Wood elemental support — restorative. Fire Tiger (2046) and Fire Rabbit (2047) energise. Earth Dragon (2048) approaches the next lo-kak with steady Earth grounding. The years she may look back on as her gentlest decade.
Earth Snake · Mewa 9 (Maroon Fire) — LO-KAK
The "great elder lo-kak" — the second Snake-return of her second 60-year cycle. By Tibetan teaching, this is the lo-kak that marks the deep-elder threshold. The Earth element makes it gentler than 2037's Fire Snake. Protective practices as before, but the year's tone is more contemplative than challenging. Significant deep-life threshold for an octogenarian, if reached.
The Pattern of the Years
When the whole forecast is laid side by side, certain rhythms emerge.
The Natal Mewa Return Rhythm
Every 9 years, her natal mewa (8-White) returns. The pattern across her life:
- — 1974 (age 9), 1983 (age 18), 1992 (age 27), 2001 (age 36), 2010 (age 45), 2019 (age 54): past returns
- — 2029 (age 64): First natal-mewa-return of the second 60-year cycle — exceptionally bright
- — 2038 (age 73): Recovery year after Fire Snake lo-kak
- — 2047 (age 82): Approaching the second lo-kak (Earth Snake 2049)
The Snake Lo-Kak Rhythm
The Snake returns every 12 years. Across her life:
- — 1977 (age 12): Fire Snake · first lo-kak · adolescent passage
- — 1989 (age 24): Earth Snake · second lo-kak · young adult initiation
- — 2001 (age 36): Metal Snake · third lo-kak · mid-life pivot
- — 2013 (age 48): Water Snake · fourth lo-kak · late-forties threshold
- — 2025 (age 60): Wood Snake · the great 60-year completion · the threshold she just crossed
- — 2037 (age 72): Fire Snake · sixth lo-kak · seventies-elder threshold (upcoming)
- — 2049 (age 84): Earth Snake · seventh lo-kak · the deep-elder threshold
The pattern of her Snake-returns has been the spine of her life's astrological rhythm. The next one (2037) is twelve years away, and is worth knowing about now so that the protective practices can be in place when it arrives.
The Three Most Significant Years Ahead
Of the years in this forecast, three stand out:
- 2029 (age 64) — Earth Rooster, Mewa 8 returns. The brightest single year ahead. The first natal-mewa-return of her second 60-year cycle, with the Snake's best harmony animal (Rooster) carrying the year. A year of deep recognition and unusual flowering.
- 2031 (age 66) — Iron Pig. The hardest single year ahead. Double-opposition: Pig opposes Snake, Iron cuts Wood. The year that asks for the most careful walking.
- 2037 (age 72) — Fire Snake lo-kak. The next major Snake-return, twelve years after the 60-threshold. The lo-kak that marks the seventies-eldering threshold.
Practices for the Years Ahead
The forecast is only as useful as the practices that meet it.
Live the Second Cycle Differently
The Tibetan teaching for the second 60-year cycle is specific: this is not the cycle of becoming, but the cycle of distillation. Whatever was being built in the first 60 years is now to be refined, deepened, and made essential. Don't try to start a new life from scratch; refine the one you've built. The chart's tone for the coming decades is flowering, not founding.
Mark Losar Each Year
Tibetan New Year falls between late January and late February each year. At Losar, replace the lung-ta (wind-horse) prayer flags in the southwest of the home (Khon, your parkha-direction). Even the symbolic act renews the year's blessing.
Honour 2029 Deliberately
Her natal-mewa-return arrives in 2029 as part of the new 60-year cycle's opening. The chart wants this year recognised. A meaningful project, a deeper step into elder role, or simply a deliberate ceremony at her birthday that year. Don't let the brightest year of the near forecast pass unmarked.
Prepare for 2031 — The Iron Pig
Six months before Losar 2031 (so from around August 2030), begin the practice. Increase turquoise-wear. Practise jin pa (generosity) deliberately. Defer elective major procedures to the surrounding years. Avoid northwest travel for major purposes. The first three months after Losar 2031 are most sensitive. Have the obstacle-clearing practices in place before the year begins.
The 2037 Lo-Kak — Standard Protections
Snake-return year. The traditional Snake-lo-kak practices apply: turquoise consistently, fresh prayer flags at Losar 2037, generosity practised deliberately, postponement of major risks to the second half of the year, and conscious honouring of the Snake throughout. Twelve years out — but worth knowing it is coming.
Tend the Body Through the Iron Years
Several years in the forecast bring Iron pressure (2030, 2031, 2040, 2041). Iron cuts her year-Wood. The traditional teaching is to support the body extra during these years — sleep, water, gentle exercise, time among trees (Wood-restoring), and avoiding very hot/spicy/Iron-heavy diet. Body-care in elder years is the strongest single Tibetan recommendation.
Spend Time in Family — Especially with Sebi
Sebi is a Wood Dragon. The Snake-Dragon pairing is neighbours in the cycle, and one of the most resonant cross-generational pairings. The years when Sebi is in his most foundational developmental windows (2026–2032, ages 2–8) overlap with some of her most fortunate years. Time alone with him in this period is not just sentimentally valuable — the chart marks it as structurally significant for both of you.
Universal Practice — Jin Pa (Generosity)
Across all years, fortunate or challenging, the practice the tradition recommends most universally is generosity. For her specifically — with Mewa 8 (Mountain/Earth), the mewa of the matriarchal anchor — generosity that strengthens family, lineage, and continuity is particularly aligned. The Italian Catholic-Tibetan-Buddhist overlap on this point is real: the elder who gives is the elder whose name is kept.
The Second 60-Year Cycle's Question
Tibetan tradition asks every elder one question at the start of the second cycle: what wisdom am I willing to be the keeper of? The first cycle assembles a life; the second cycle is given to passing it on. This is not retirement-thinking — it is the chart's structural assignment for the years ahead. The answer can take many forms (writing, teaching, simply being present), but the question is real. The forecast singles out 2029 as the year the answer should be clearer.
An Honest Note on Forecasts
Tibetan astrology takes its forecasts seriously, but the tradition is also clear that they describe energetic terrain, not fixed events. A challenging year is not a year that will bring difficulty — it is a year whose terrain is more difficult to walk, and whose difficulty is reduced by the right practices. A fortunate year is not a year that will bring fortune — it is a year whose terrain is more supportive, and whose support is unlocked by leaning into it.
The accuracy of Tibetan forecasts depends partly on whether the person knows the forecast. A 2031 spent in awareness of the Iron Pig's pressures looks completely different from a 2031 walked into unaware. The traditional teaching is: the astrologer's job is to help you walk the terrain consciously, not to predict the fall.
Joanne has just crossed the great 60-year threshold — the most significant single astrological event of her life. The forecast that follows is the map of her second cycle. Use it as a guide, mark the years it singles out, build the practices it recommends. The years will come; the question is who she will be when they arrive.
The Wardrobe & Talisman Guide
A practical synthesis of both Joanne's readings — Western and Tibetan — into what colours to wear, what stones to carry, and what metals to favour. Her palette is naturally Mediterranean — warm earth, deep wine, old gold, olive, ivory. Both systems agree on this; the chart was already dressed for her at birth.
Foundation Colours
Both systems agree on these. Her palette runs Mediterranean — wear them often, head-to-toe.
Strong Accent Colours
Use as accents — a scarf, a leather piece, lipstick, nail polish. The warm Italian palette in concentrate.
Use with Awareness
Not forbidden — but the Tibetan system flags pure cold-Metal as the element that cuts her Wood. Reduce in her lo-kak and Iron-Pig years (2031, 2037). Balance with warmer pieces.
Gemstones — Daily & Signature
The three stones where both readings converge. Worn alone or together, these anchor her chart.
Turquoise
The great Tibetan protective stone, especially powerful for Wood-natured people. Wear continuously through her second 60-year cycle. Essential in 2031 (Iron Pig) and 2037 (Snake lo-kak).
Sapphire
Her birth-month stone in both Western and Vedic systems. The deep blue resonates with Water — which nourishes her year-Wood in the Tibetan system. Particularly powerful in royal blue or midnight tones.
Garnet
Her Capricorn-rising stone. The deep wine-red carries both her Scorpio Moon's depth and her Capricorn-rising's groundedness. A classical "matriarch" stone in European tradition.
Gemstones — Situational
A small Mediterranean treasury — stones to draw on by mood or occasion.
Peridot
Her Virgo Sun's stone — fresh green, Wood-coded, ancient Egyptian and Italian-Catholic favourite. Worn for clarity, discernment, and the cool-headed thinking her chart's Mercury asks for.
Topaz
Her Scorpio Moon's stone in classical Western astrology. Smoky or golden topaz especially. Worn for emotional depth, intuition, and the inner-knowing the Moon-Neptune in 11th gives her.
Sardonyx
The Mediterranean alternative birthstone for September — banded red-brown layers. Particularly resonant for an Italian woman of her birth month. Protective in Roman tradition.
Jade
Tibetan Wood-stone. Green jade especially. Carried or worn as a small piece — pendant, bangle, or kept in a pocket. Wood-aligned but cool, balancing her warm Mediterranean stones.
Coral
Red coral is a deeply Italian-Mediterranean talisman — protective against evil eye in the southern Italian tradition. Tibetan Fire-support. Both heritages converging in a single stone.
Amber
Fossilised tree-resin — Wood condensed by time. Warm honey to deep cognac. Tibetan Fire-support. Worn in lo-kak years and during the colder seasons.
For her caution years (2031 Iron Pig, 2037 Snake lo-kak): Turquoise becomes essential — worn continuously, not occasionally. Add coral or amber as additional Fire-element protective stones. Reduce silver and white-gold jewellery during these years. Wear her Italian coral particularly in 2031.

The chart and the tradition both dressed her in advance. Olive, gold, burgundy, wine, ivory, copper, sapphire, coral, turquoise — these are the colours of an Italian nonna, and also the colours of a Wood-Snake Mewa-8 woman, and also the colours her chart's Venus-on-the-MC has been asking for since she was born. The wardrobe was waiting.
Losar tashi delek — auspiciousness across the years ahead.
"The first cycle gathers; the second cycle distils.
The mountain stands; the snake watches; the years cycle home.
May the matriarch's wisdom find its keeping. May the lung-ta ride strong."
